Puy (peak)

Puy (from Latin podium "hill") is in its original meaning the French name for the shape of a volcanic mountain peak in the Massif Central . These peaks are usually in the form of a cone or a dome .

Gradually, however, it has become common practice to also designate some peaks that look similar but are not of volcanic origin as puy.
