Jerome Ferdinand Weber

Jerome Ferdinand Weber OSB (born September 14, 1914 in Muenster in Saskatchewan , Canada ; † September 4, 2008 ) was a Roman Catholic religious and Benedictine . He was Abbot Ordinary of the Territorial Abbey of St. Peter-Muenster , Saskatchewan.

Life

Jerome Ferdinand Weber, the second oldest of 13 children, attended school with the Ursulines , then the St. Peter College of the Benedictine Abbey of St. Peter. He joined the Benedictine order, made his novitiate in St. John's Abbey in Collegeville, and made profession on February 22, 1940. On June 8, 1941, he was ordained priest by Bishop Joseph Francis Busch . He then became Prefect at St. Peter College , while studying history at the University of Saskatchewan .

In 1958 he became prior of St. Peter in Muenster. On April 6, 1960 he succeeded Severinus Giacomo Gertken OSB and abbot of the territorial abbey of St. Peter in Muenster, an abbey with a bishopric- like function, the abbot having the jurisdiction of a bishop , but not his power of consecration . He was a member of the local episcopal conference .

Jerome Ferdinand Weber took part in all three session periods from 1962 to 1965 at the Second Vatican Council . In Maceió , Brazil , he sent members of his monastery to expand the mission station. Under his direction a new monastery was built (1962) and a new monastery church (1989).

In 1990 he resigned from his offices at the age of 75; his resignation was granted by Pope John Paul II . His successor was Peter Wilfred Novecosky OSB.
