Pyronines
Pyronine is the collective name for cationic xanthene dyes . They can be derived from diphenylmethine dyes. Nowadays, apart from pyronine G, they no longer have any technical significance.
Representative
The cationic xanthene dyes include pyronine G and pyronine B , for example .
use
Pyronin G is used together with methyl green in microscopy for Unna-Pappenheim staining . This as well as Pyronin B can also be used as laser dyes .
Manufacturing
A pyronine is obtained by first reacting formaldehyde with 3- (alkylamino) phenols . The leuco compound obtained is then cyclized to pyronine by oxidation with nitrous acid and with elimination of water .
