Pythodoris

Pythodoris ( Greek Πυθὀδοριϛ Φιλομἠτωρ = Pythodorida Philometor, "the mother-lover" , * around 30 BC in Tralleis (today Aydın); † 22 in Cappadocia , Turkey ) was Queen of Pontus .

Life

As the daughter of the Asiarch Pythodoros von Tralleis and Antonia, a daughter of the triumvir Marcus Antonius , she married around 12 BC. The king of Pontus, Polemon I, and ruled the empire after his death (7 BC) alone as the vassal queen of the Romans, with her eldest son serving as their chief minister. Her residence was Kabeira (now Niksar , Tokat Province ). In 18 AD, her younger son Zenon was named Artaxias III at the instigation of the emperor Tiberius . King of Greater Armenia. Pythodoris married a second marriage at the request of Emperor Augustus around 8 AD, King Archelaos of Cappadocia . This marriage remained childless.

Her daughter Antonia Tryphaina married the Thracian king Kotys VIII.

Around 19 AD, Pythodoris is still documented. After Pythodoris 'death, Pontus was placed under Sequester by the Romans until Caligula Pythodoris' grandson Polemon II. 38 AD reinstated as king († 63 AD).
