- Drusus the Younger receives the power of the tribunal , whereby he is officially appointed heir to the throne and co-regent. Tiberius increasingly withdraws and leaves the government to his son. In doing so, however, he exposes him to competition from the Praetorian prefect Seianus .
- Quintus Junius Blaesus , Proconsul of the Province of Africa , together with Legate Publius Cornelius Lentulus Scipio briefly succeeds in curbing the Numidian uprising under Tacfarinas , but without finally defeating it.

- During the Red Eyebrow Uprising, Emperor Wang Mang of the Xin Dynasty sends troops to Shandong , where they suffer a heavy defeat against a starving peasant army.
