Roman Empire
- Lucius Pomponius Flaccus and Gaius Caelius Rufus are consuls of the Roman Empire . Gaius Vibius Marsus and Lucius Voluseius Proculus become suffect consuls .
- The province of Gaul is divided into Gallia Belgica (capital: Durocortorum ), Gallia Lugdunensis (capital: Lugdunum ) and Gallia Aquitania (capital: Mediolanum Santonum ). Gallia Belgica also includes the military district from which the provinces Germania inferior and Germania superior are later formed.
- May 26th : C. Iulius Caesar Germanicus triumphantly moves to Rome after his campaign against the Teutons . The former Cheruscan prince Segestes , his daughter Thusnelda and their son, the only two-year-old Thumelicus , are presented as prisoners. All three are then sent into exile.
- A revolt by Numidian and Moorish tribes under the leadership of Tacfarinas begins in the province of Africa . Its guerrilla war is initially very successful. Proconsul Marcus Furius Camillus can inflict a first defeat on him, but the uprising continues.
- Emperor Tiberius sets Antiochus III. , King of the client state of Kommagene . The land will from now on be administered directly by Rome.
- Construction of the city of Tiberias in Judea begins.

- Spring: The pro-Roman marcomann king Marbod goes with his warriors against the Cherusci under Arminius . According to legend, he was the first to cross the Ore Mountains with his army . The armed forces are roughly balanced at around 50,000 each. Arminius succeeds in pushing his rival back into his tribal area in Bohemia .

- In India the Ratiramana is written by Siddha Nagarjuna . The work deals with the aspects of conjugal love in 11 chapters.
Disasters
- Several cities in the Roman province of Asia , including Magnesia am Meander , are destroyed by an earthquake . Emperor Tiberius will have it rebuilt with his own resources over the next twelve years.
