Roman Empire
Benjamin West : Agrippina lands in Brundisium with the ashes of Germanicus , 1768
- October 10th : The general C. Iulius Caesar Germanicus falls ill in Antioch on the Orontes and dies shortly afterwards. The legate of the province of Syria , Gnaeus Calpurnius Piso , with whom Germanicus was in dispute, is then charged with poisoning the general.
- The laws enacted by the consuls ( lex Iunia Norbana and lex Iunia Petronia ) both deal with the release of slaves, whose lot is to be improved, among other things, by a limited Latin civil right.

- The after fighting Arminius weakened Marcomannic King Maroboduus by the Goths fell under Katwalda. It is the first time that the Goths have come to the fore in history. Marbod fled to the Roman Empire and was arrested in Ravenna .
