Benjamin West : Agrippina lands in Brundisium with the ashes of Germanicus , 1768
  • October 10th : The general C. Iulius Caesar Germanicus falls ill in Antioch on the Orontes and dies shortly afterwards. The legate of the province of Syria , Gnaeus Calpurnius Piso , with whom Germanicus was in dispute, is then charged with poisoning the general.
  • The laws enacted by the consuls ( lex Iunia Norbana and lex Iunia Petronia ) both deal with the release of slaves, whose lot is to be improved, among other things, by a limited Latin civil right.
