Empire of China
- January or February: During the Red Eyebrow Uprising in China , Wang Mang , the only emperor of the short-lived Xin dynasty , is defeated in battle. On March 11th, Liu Xuan was enthroned under the name Han Gengshidi near the besieged city of Wan as the counter-emperor of the Han dynasty .
- In summer the city of Wan falls into the hands of the insurgents. Emperor Gengshi declared it the provisional capital and resided there until the end of the uprising. A little later he has his comrade-in-arms and rival for the imperial throne Liu Bosheng executed for treason.
- During the course of the year, Wang Mang's forces were severely beaten, and he himself was executed on October 8th . Emperor Gengshi convinces some provincial officials to submit and allow a non-violent transition under the new rule. In addition, he forges ties with the “red eyebrows” who have been fighting against the central power everywhere in the empire for several years. The leaders of the Red Eyebrows formally recognize Gengshi as emperor. The leaders continue their operations independently of him and pursue their own goals.
Roman Empire
Tiberius ' son and designated successor Drusus the Younger is believed to be murdered on July 1st by his cousin and wife Livilla and the Praetorian prefect Lucius Aelius Seianus . Seianus then spreads rumors that Drusus wanted to poison his father during a meal together. However, since he had warned Tiberius, the emperor switched the cups. Tiberius, who according to Suetonius had no close fatherly relationship with him, allegedly does not mourn him, but has him buried with great pomp. Tiberius forbids the marriage with Livilla, which Seianus wanted to achieve.
Ptolemy succeeds his late father Juba II. As the last king of Mauritania . As the son of Cleopatra Selene , he is a grandson of Marcus Antonius and Cleopatra . Together with Publius Cornelius Dolabella , the proconsul of Africa , he takes action against the Numidian resistance fighter Tacfarina and the Garamanten tribe .
