Domestic Policy in the Roman Empire
- Sisenna Statilius Taurus and Lucius Scribonius Libo are consuls of the Roman Empire . Publius Pomponius Graecinus and Gaius Vibius Rufus become suffect consuls .
Campaigns to Germania magna
- Nero Claudius Germanicus starts a new campaign to Germania magna with eight legions . The main opponents are again the Cherusci , who were able to inflict a serious defeat on the Romans last year . The aim of the Roman campaign this time is not to split the opponents, but to destroy them. The warriors meet on opposite banks of the Weser . Allegedly there is a dispute between Arminius , the leader of the Cherusci, and his brother Flavus , who is in the service of the Roman army.
- The following day the Romans cross the Weser and meet the Cheruscans at Idistaviso to fight. In the open field battle, the Germanic peoples only barely escape the encirclement. Most of the warriors manage to retreat to the Angrivarian Wall between the Weser and the Steinhuder Meer . Arminius is wounded during the battle. The renewed fighting in the place, which is easier for the Cherusci to defend, end numerically with a victory for the Romans, but Germanicus feels compelled to leave Germania magna with his weakened legions in August. Germanicus is ordered back to Rome by Emperor Tiberius . This ended the attempts of the Roman Empire to conquer all of Germania .
