Politics and world events
Roman Empire
- Marcus Aemilius Lepidus and Titus Statilius Taurus are consuls in the Roman Empire. Lucius Cassius Longinus later becomes a suffect consul .
- The operational goal of the Roman Empire in the year 11 is the creation of a deserted buffer zone on the right bank of the Rhine , the strategic goal the submission of the rebels. The extradition and punishment of the “traitor” Arminius and the (at least) formal submission of the Germanic tribes involved in the uprising are the obvious war aims of the Romans. To what extent a recapture of Germania magna is still being considered is not known today.
- The tactical measures taken by Proconsul Tiberius Julius Caesar this year are for prevention and deterrence. Tiberius crosses the Rhine with the army, carries the war into enemy territory, penetrates the interior, exposes the border routes, devastates the fields, burns down the houses, beats everyone who opposes him, and returns to the winter camp without loss.
Asia
Disasters
- The Yellow River in China shifts its mouth southward. The renewed flooding isolates Shandong , causing hunger, epidemic and emigration there.
