Roman Empire
- Marcus Furius Camillus and Sextus Nonius Quinctilianus are consuls of the Roman Empire . Later that year Lucius Apronius and Aulus Vibius Habitus became suffect consuls .
 - August 3 : The later Emperor Tiberius defeats the rebellious Dalmatians in the province of Illyricum .
 - Tincomarus, who, together with his brother Eppilus , ruled over the Roman client state of the Atrebates on the south coast of Britain , was driven out by his compatriots. From now on Eppilus rules the empire alone.
 - The Roman Empire concludes a friendship treaty with the Germanic Marcomanni under Marbod . This gives them the status of a clientele.
 - Iulia Minor , the granddaughter of Emperor Augustus , is exiled to the Tremiti Islands because of her affair with Senator Decimus Silanus . The engagement between her daughter Aemilia Lepida and T. Claudius Nero Germanicus (later Emperor Claudius ) is dissolved. Instead, Claudius becomes engaged to Livia Medullina , daughter of the consul Marcus Furius Camillus . However, this dies before the marriage.

- (or 9) Attambelos II , the King of the Charakene , dies. He is succeeded by Abinergaos I.
 
science and technology
- The Chinese astronomer Liu Xin publishes an astronomical system that he calls "triple agreement". In this he calculates the length of an earth year with 365.25016 days - that is only eleven minutes more than the current value.
 
Culture and society
- Autumn: Publius Ovidius Naso, known as Ovid , is exiled by Emperor Augustus personally and without a Senate resolution to Tomis , Moesia province (today: Constanța ). The exact reason is not known. There he begins to write the Tristia , poetic letters in elegiac form, which he sends from his exile to various addressees.
