Qīrāt

The Qīrāt ( Arabic قيراط, DMG qīrāt ), called Kirat in European representations , was a diamond weight in Egypt , Syria , Algeria and other countries in North Africa and also a unit of length in Egypt.

Mass unit

The designation corresponds to the carat . Habbe was the weight of a stye . 24 habbe (grains) made one kirat.

In Morocco there were coins made of copper , which were denoted with rock (plural: F'lus). The rock was counted at 4 kirats. Thus, the Kirat was the smallest copper coin . The Tschelci as gold, silver and jewelery weight with 320.2314 grams had 1600 kirat. There were deviations for gold and silver. The basis of the trial weights for gold were 24 kirats and for silver 100 kirats of 4 grän each.

As the smallest measure of the feddan in Egypt, the kirat is a unit of area and divides into 24 units of 175 square meters each .
