QR Limited was a railway company in the state of Queensland , Australia .
It was de facto the Queensland State Railroad. The original state railway, Queensland Rail , was reorganized in 1999 by an administrative structure based on entrepreneurial principles, but remained completely state-owned. In 2002, the Northern Rivers Railroad , based in Casino , New South Wales, was integrated and ran rail traffic between the two states. In 2007, “Queensland Rail” was reorganized into “ QR Limited ”, giving it a private legal form as a limited liability company.
Queensland Rail had 717 locomotives on June 30, 2008. Examples are the QR 3700 and the QR 3800 . The network of the railway company is designed with Cape gauge .
In 2009, the Queensland government decided to separate the state's rail operations into a commercial part of QR National Limited and the non-commercial part - primarily urban transport in the greater Brisbane area. The shares of the commercial QR National Limited are to be sold, with the state intending to keep between 25 and 40% of the shares itself. This reorganization took effect on July 1, 2010. The shares have been sold since the end of 2010. Sales revenue of AU $ 7 billion is expected.
In 2012 QR National was renamed Aurizon Holdings Limited .
