Qala-i-Naw ( Persian قلعه نو) is the capital of the district of the same name in the Afghan province of Badghis . Information on the number of inhabitants fluctuates between 14,500 and 64,125.

Downtown Qala-I-Naw

The Afghan security forces and Spanish soldiers and police officers under ISAF mandate were responsible for the security of Qala-i-Naw until the withdrawal of the Spaniards . The main base of the Spaniards was also in Qala-i-Naw.

Qala-i-Naw has a small airport that is primarily used for military purposes.
