The Karkaraly National Park ( Kazakh Қарқаралы мемлекеттік ұлттық табиғи паркі , Russian Каркаралинский государственный национальный природный парк ) is a national park in Kazakhstan . It is located in the center of Kazakhstan in the Karagandy region and extends over 112,120 hectares of land.

The Qarqaraly National Park is located in the northeast of the Karagandy area in central Kazakhstan. It covers a total of 112,120 hectares of land, of which almost 44,000 hectares are forested. The national park consists of five relatively isolated mountain groups, one of which is the eponymous Karkaraly massif .

The park's headquarters are in the city of Qarqaraly .

Spellings

Since the independence of Kazakhstan, official names have been written in Kazakh , which is why there are different spellings for the park and, for example, the Karkaraly mountain range.

Flora and fauna

In the area of ​​the national park there are a large number of different plant species compared to the surrounding area. Flowering plants, mosses and lichens are among the almost 200 species. The most common tree species are the pine , birch , aspen , willow and juniper . The majority of the tree population consists of pines. In Qarqaraly National Park there are also five plant species that are on the red list of Kazakhstan's endangered species .

The national park is home to around 200 species of animals, including around 40 species of mammals , 150 species of birds , six species of reptiles , two species of amphibians and 15 species of fish . The largest animals in the park are ungulates . Worth mentioning here are the Siberian deer , wild boar , elk and argali . Many rodents such as the Djungarian dwarf hamster , the Eversmann dwarf hamster or voles can also be found here. Among the bird species that live in the park, the golden eagle , imperial eagle , steppe eagle , booted eagle , saker falcon , eagle owl , Dalmatian pelican , black stork , whooper swan , swan goose and steppe grouse are endangered in Kazakhstan.
