Qasim Şeşo
Qasim Şeşo (* 1952 in Iraq ), also known as the Sinjar Lion , is a member of the Yazidis in Iraq. He gained international fame through his defensive work in the Sinjar Mountains and the second holiest pilgrimage site of the Yazidis of their faith Sharaf ad-Din during the 2014 summer offensive of the terrorist organization Islamic State in Iraq.
Life
Qasim fled in 1981 with his wife and their common children from Sinjar against Saddam Hussein and his soldiers. They tried to make a living in Syria , but fled to Germany in 1990. When the United States ended Saddam Hussein's regime in 2003 , he saw an opportunity to return. Under the influence of the summer offensive by the terrorist organization Islamic State, he founded the Yezidi vigilante Hêza Parastina Şingal on July 30, 2014 . On October 20, he was surrounded with fighters of the Yazidi vigilantes in the pilgrimage site Sharaf ad-Din and led them in the battle for Sharaf ad-Din .
Qasim Şeşo is the uncle of the resistance fighter Heydar Schescho .
