The mausoleum of Sharaf al-Din (also Şerfedîn ) is a place and a place of pilgrimage of the Yazidis in the district Sinjar in Iraq . The place gained international fame through attacks by the terrorist organization IS . As part of one of the offensives in 2014, the battle for Sherfedîn occurred , in which the Yezidi vigilante group Hêza Parastina Şingal defended the Sinjar Mountains and the saint tomb of Sharaf ad-Din.

The mausoleum was built in 1274 in honor of the Yazidi saint Sharaf ad-Din. Sheikh Sharaf ad-Din was a Yazidi chief and governor of the ancient city of Harput . Allied with the Seljuk Prince Izz ad-Din against the Mongols , he was general of an armed force consisting of Yazidis, Kurds and Turkmens . In 1257 he fell in a battle against the Mongols.
