Qatar Electricity & Water Company (QEWC; Arabic شركة الكهرباء والماء القطرية, DMG Šarikat al-Kahribāʾ wa-l-Māʾ al-Qaṭariyya ) is the leading producer of electricity and water in Qatar . According to its own information, QEWC's share of the total generation capacity in Qatar in 2011 was 60% for electricity and 70% for water. As of 2014, the respective share was 62 and 79%.

The sole consumer of the electricity and water produced by QEWC is the state electricity and water supplier Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA).

QEWC is listed on the Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) and one of the largest companies on the QSE by market capitalization.

Shareholders

The largest shareholders are the State of Qatar (43%), Qatar Petroleum (10%) and Qatar National Bank (5%).

Investments

All plants (power plants and seawater desalination plants ) are operated with natural gas as fuel. The installed capacity of all power plants is 8,495 MW . history

The QEWC was founded in 1990. As part of the beginning of privatization in Qatar, the power plants and seawater desalination plants were transferred from the Ministry of Electricity and Water to QEWC in 1999 . In July 2000, the Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) is founded as a state monopoly for electricity and water supply. On December 30, 2002, the contract between QEWC and KAHRAMAA was signed, which stipulates the following: QEWC owns and operates the power plants and seawater desalination plants, while KAHRAMAA operates the transmission and distribution networks for electricity and water.

Financial data

QEWC was founded in 1990 with a share capital of QR 1 billion . The share capital was divided into 100 million shares of 10 QR each. In 2014, the share capital was QR 1.1 billion, divided into 110 million shares. The following table provides an overview of some of QEWC's financial data:

Others

Electricity and water are free for Qatari nationals. For industrial customers, the electricity price is US $ 19 per MWh , for all others it is US $ 30 per MWh. The per capita consumption of electricity in Qatar is one of the highest in the world. By 2014, Qatar should be third in the world in this regard, behind Iceland and Norway. It is estimated that electricity consumption in Qatar will more than double from 21 billion kWh in 2009 to 47 billion kWh in 2014.
