Qin Dahe

Qin Dahe ( Chinese  秦 大河 , Pinyin Qín Dàhé , * 1947 in Lanzhou ) is a Chinese climatologist .

Qin grew up in Lanzhou and graduated from the Faculty of Geography at Lanzhou University in 1970.

His specialty is glaciology . He is the head of the Chinese Meteorological Authority and works at the Research Institute for Cold and Dry Regions of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Lanzhou.

In 1989 he took part in an international Antarctic expedition and was the first Chinese to reach the South Pole .

Because of his research, Qin Dahe was appointed to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change . In 2007 he was co-chair of Working Group I “The Physical Science Basis” in a responsible position in the preparation of the fourth assessment report .
