Quaddick State Forest is a state forest in the US state of Connecticut in the area of the township of Thompson , north of Quaddick State Park . The forest comprises 1,109 acres (449 hectares) of land and serves as a protection zone for the 189 hectare (466 acre) Quaddick Reservoir in the Fivemile River catchment area .
history
Originally the area was a fishing ground for the Nipmuck Indians. In 1866 the Thompson Parish gave permission to dam what was then Kings Pond . The reservoir was subsequently used to generate energy. The land that is now designated as a State Forest was the Town Farm at that time , as a retirement home for residents of the community. The area extends in the east to the immediate border of Rhode Island .
