Bremerhaven Harbor Pilot Company

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The port pilots of the city of Bremerhaven are organized in the Hafenlotsengesellschaft Bremerhaven . The members of the Hafenlotsengesellschaft work as freelancers on behalf of the State of Bremen and guarantee the piloting in the port of Bremerhaven. The Hafenlotsengesellschaft Bremerhaven is entitled to administer the port pilot system itself. As a corporation under public law, it is subject to the supervision of the Bremen Senator for Economics and Ports .

Port pilots

There are currently 30 port pilots organized in the Bremerhaven port pilot company. Each member has a master's license and many years of experience as a sea officer. The port pilots take over incoming ships at the Bremen state border from the Weserlotsen of the Lotsenbrüderschaft Weser II / Jade or the Pilots Brotherhood Weser I and provide advice to the respective captain until they dock in the port. The income of the port pilots is not financed from the tax revenue, but exclusively from the fees that the shipping companies or the respective ship owners pay for the pilotage service. The port pilots are appointed by the Bremen Senator for Economics and Ports.

Pilot Brotherhood

Bremerhaven's port pilots have been organized since 1830. The Hafenlotsengesellschaft Bremerhaven has its headquarters on Columbusinsel in Geo-Plate-Straße 1 south of the Columbuskaje between the Weser and the Bremerhaven port. It is one of the nine pilot brotherhoods of the Federal Republic of Germany and, along with the port pilot brotherhood Hamburg, one of two port pilot brotherhoods. Every five years the Bremerhaven port pilots elect a so-called senior man to head the port pilot society. In contrast to the sea pilots, the port pilots are not represented in the Federal Chamber of Pilots and do not send their senior men there. However, every port pilot is entitled to join the Federal Association of Sea and Port Pilots, which is also based in Bremerhaven , as an individual member .
