The Quaker Oats Company is a traditional American food company based in Chicago that has been part of PepsiCo since 2001 .
Quaker Oats was founded in Ohio in 1901 through the merger of four oat mills , the oldest of which, German Mills American Cereal Company , dates back to 1850. Another, Quaker Mill, had a Quaker trademarked in 1877, but had never had any ties to religious Quakerism . The name was only chosen because Quakers had a good reputation and were considered honest. The well-known logo represents the Pennsylvania founder William Penn and was created in 1969 by Saul Bass . In addition to the breakfast cereals , well-known brands include Cap'n Crunch , the isodrink Gatorade, bought in 1983 (75% market share in the USA) and the muesli bars Chewy Granola Bars .
From 1969 to 1991 the group owned the toy manufacturer Fisher-Price , from 1994 to 1997 the beverage company Snapple , which is well known in the USA , then sold it at a heavy loss.
In 2011, PepsiCo founded a joint venture between Quaker Oats and the dairy company Theo Müller group called Muller Quaker Dairy . In view of the declining demand for sweet drinks, PepsiCo intended to diversify its product range, and Müller to enter the American market. In 2013, a yogurt factory was put into operation in Batavia (City, New York) . At the end of 2015, the joint venture was dissolved because sales were too low, and the yogurt plant was sold to Dairy Farmers of America .
