Qualification process

Qualification procedure is the generic term for all procedures that are suitable for determining whether a person has the skills required to acquire a federally recognized qualification.

The term qualification procedure was introduced with the new Swiss Vocational Training Act. In particular, this refers to the previous final apprenticeship examination, but also other qualification procedures that lead to a federally recognized qualification.

The procedure applies to both basic and higher vocational training .

Qualification procedure for basic vocational training

It is carried out in two parts of 50% each: the practical part (by the organizations of the world of work and the training companies) and the school part (by the vocational schools) at the end of the training period. The three- and four-year dual / trialen training this leads to federal certificate of proficiency in the certificate courses for professional certificate .

Other qualification procedures

Adults have the opportunity to catch up on a vocational qualification without having to go through formal education. The process of validation of the acquis professionnels is a so-called «other qualification process». In principle, the same requirements must be met as for teaching. The basis is the balancing of competencies and self-assessment in a dossier. The way is open to everyone. Information is available from the secondary school and vocational training office in the canton of residence.
