Quarriors! is a dice building game by the authors Eric M. Lang and Mike Elliot for two to four people. The game was published in 2011 by the American publisher WizKids , in Germany it has been published by Pegasus Spiele since 2011 .

Theme and equipment

In the game you take on the role of a quarrior and try to summon monsters with the help of a dice pool and thereby gain victory points. As in a deck building game, you can buy new dice every round, which are added to your personal supply.

The game material consists of the game instructions

  • 130 dice ,
  • 53 power cards,
  • a victory point board with 4 victory point markers and
  • 4 dice bags.

Style of play

To prepare for the game, the creature cards and magic cards are shuffled separately. Then monster cards are randomly revealed until 7 different monster classes are on display. The same procedure is used with the magic cards, but only 4 of them are revealed. Then the corresponding dice are placed on the cards. In addition, the standard cards "Supporter", "Basic Force" and "Portal" are available. Then each player receives a dice bag as well as 8 basic strength dice and 4 support dice.

Phases per round

  • Score creatures
  • Draw dice, dice and prepare
  • Attack opponents
  • Buy a new cube

The game continues until a player has achieved the required victory points. These depend on the number of players.

The starting player begins his round by scoring the monsters that he summoned in the last round. This step is not necessary in the first round. Then he puts the scored monsters in the storage area and draws 6 new dice from his dice bag. If there are not enough dice, the player draws the remaining dice and then refills the dice bag with the dice from his graveyard. Then he draws the missing dice.

After rolling the 6 dice, the player can now summon all the monsters rolled, provided that he can pay the costs. Rubik's cubes can either be used immediately or saved for a later date.

Now the monsters that have just been summoned attack each other player's monsters in turn. The total strength of your own monsters is added up. The defending player can decide in which order the monsters block with their resistance. If a monster is destroyed, it is put directly into the graveyard. The monsters' full attack strength is used for each opponent. If the player from phase 2 still has enough currency left, he can buy a die from the general supply and add it to his graveyard. This ends his round and it is the next player's turn.

The game ends immediately if, after scoring, a player fulfills one of the following two victory conditions:

  • The player has the required number of victory points, or
  • There are no more dice on at least 4 cards in the display.

If neither of the two victory conditions is met after a round, another round is played. If the game ends because there are no more dice on 4 cards, the player who has the most victory points at this point in time wins. Otherwise, the first player to achieve the necessary victory points wins.

Extensions

For Quarriors! there are three extensions:

  • Quarriors! Quarmageddon : The expansion adds 26 new cards and 40 new dice. In addition, some processes have been simplified and a new "Used" play zone has been added.
  • Qarriors! Light vs Dark : Quarriors! Light vs. Dark can be used both as a standalone game and as an extension. It contains the cards and dice from the basic game, as well as 2 new magic cards and 6 new monsters. The game also includes 4 dice bags, 4 victory point markers and a victory point board. The biggest change is the new currency dice, which are available in a common pool for all players. In addition to the basic power from the basic game, there are now also light and dark basic powers. If the power matches the type of monster, it is cheaper to purchase.
  • Quarriors! Quest of the Gladiator : This expansion offers 40 new dice with 6 new creatures and 2 new magic cards. In addition, it expands the game with a new game mechanic, the so-called "lure". This allows a player to put a monster in their active zone without paying the cost. At this point the monster has neither attack nor defense, but can use its "lure ability". A creature can be "unlocked" when it is replaced by another creature or an opponent pays 2 basic power.
