Quartant

Quartant , also Quarteau , was a French measure of volume for liquids, especially for wine . The measure corresponded to the so-called quarter ton and was not uniform in size.

  • Generally 1 quartant = 5107 Parisian cubic inches
  • 1 quartant = 9 Veltes / Setiers = 72 pintes = 3380 Parisian cubic inches = 67 liters
  • 1 muid / queue = 4 quarters
  • 1 quartant = 4540 Parisian cubic inches
  • Nantes in the salt trade 52 quarters = 1 muid / cue
