The Buchsäuerling or Rodisforter Sauerbrunn in the Egertal below today's Buchkoppe between Karlsbad and Rodisfort , known since 1852 as König-Otto-Quelle , was already known in the late Middle Ages , and until the end of the 19th century was only open with a well temple with a, built in 1853 14 granite columns built over resting classical foyer , in the middle of which a portrait of King Otto of Greece was attached. Until April 30, 1897, the Heinrich Mattoni company announced a public competition to build a source temple in the form of a pavilion at this location. A total of 23 designs by different architects were submitted, but none of them could take first place, instead the Heinrich Mattoni company awarded two second prizes, each worth 900 crowns. The prizes went to Theodor Schreier and E. Lindner from Vienna and AH Pecha, also from Vienna. In the following year the old wooden colonnade hall was demolished and the source temple was built in the same place under the guidance of the Austrian architect Karl Haybäck (1861-1926) in an elaborate design using plenty of marble. The interior is said to have been designed by the art marbling and plastering company founded by Anton Detoma . The official inauguration of the source temple took place with the opening of the course season on May 1, 1900. In the temple there was the newly painted König Otto spring under a glass lid. Inside was a marble plaque with the slogan TO THE MAGNIFICENT SOURCE DEDICATED BY HEINRICH EDLER BY MATTONI ANNO DOMINI 1898 . The source temple was structurally connected to the building, which was used as a theater , among other things . In 1911, however, a similarly designed filling hall was added to the source temple in a south-westerly direction .

The two years 1873 and 1893, which are important for the development of the health resort, were attached to the front of the hall.
