The Otto Spring ( Czech : Ottův pramen ) (until 1918 King Otto Spring , by 2013 Mattoni source ) is one of five mineral water sources in the former Czech spa town of Kyselka in the Karlovy Vary District . It has been named after the first Greek king Otto I since 1852 and was one of the most important water sources for drinking cures in Kyselka.

description

location

The Otto spring is located on the south side of the former spa town and has its source near the spa gardens of Villa Mattoni . The exact place of origin of the source could not be precisely determined despite investigations of the soil from 1959 to 1966 and in the 1980s. Geologically, the source is in the Ore Mountains in the Bohemian Massif .

history

The spring was already known in the Middle Ages and was named Büchsäuerling or Rodisforter Sauerbrunn . It was named König-Otto-Quelle on August 23, 1852 and was bought by the Mattoni company in 1867 . From 1870 mineral water was regularly tapped here and sold to cities such as Vienna , Prague and Karlovy Vary . Around 1890, the Otto spring tapped the most water for Mattoni of all five springs. The Rudolf Spring came in second place by far . In 1900, the laying of water pipes began to transport the water from the spring to buildings such as the Kur-Restaurant , the Heinrichshof and the Villa Mattoni . Parts of these lines were shut down in the 1950s, the neglected Otto source was renamed Mattoni source. In 2010 the water source was declared a monument and in 2013 it was renamed Otto source again. In 2014 a new drinking fountain was inaugurated for the spring.

ingredients

The spring water is rich in carbonic acid and mineral salts. It is considered helpful in drinking cures and other treatments for respiratory, metabolic and kidney diseases, tension and pain in the musculoskeletal system.
