Cross lake
A transverse lake is used when a watercraft is hit by water waves from the side . Due to their regular occurrence or their size, there is a risk that
- the watercraft is structurally overloaded or capsized ,
- that damage from sea hammer occurs in areas that are not normally affected by the swell , and
- that cargo will be damaged or slip (which stability problems may lead to, up to the capsizing ).
Waves that hit from a lateral area (0 degrees is in front) between 45 degrees and 135 degrees can be considered as a transverse lake. Even waves that are harmless in themselves can cause the watercraft to rock and thus capsize ( resonance effect ).
