Coat of arms of the Diocese of Würzburg
In heraldry, a heraldic cross or quest is a heraldic symbol that consists of a common cross with a ring around the center of the cross. The ring has the same tinging as the cross. The ring width should be adapted to the cross arm thickness. This heraldic figure can be a herald image or a common figure in the coat of arms.
It is differentiated from the Celtic cross , a Latin cross with a ring.
The meaning of the cross is not certain. It probably comes from Celtic symbolism , where it is called the "Celtic sun wheel" and is a sign of jurisdiction.
