Claes Eriksson (born September 3, 1958 ) is a Swedish football coach and official. After having worked as a coach in both Swedish women's and men's football in the first division, he took on a position in the youth team at Svenska Fotbollförbundet .

Career

Eriksson played for Vendelsö IK in his youth until 1976 , before he played for two years at IF Olympia . After the end of his career, he worked for Hammarby IF from 1979 and worked as both a junior and assistant coach. He supported Hans Backe from 1987 and his successor Kenneth Ohlsson from 1989 . When he was inherited by Tommy Davidsson in 1993 , Eriksson left the club and started at Huddinge IF as head coach.

In the 1997 season Eriksson took over the women's team of Älvsjö AIK in Damallsvenskan . With the double winner of the previous year, he defended the championship title. Nevertheless, he left the club after only one season and joined the men's club FC Café Opera in the third highest division. As third in the table behind IF Brommapojkarna and Väsby IK , he just missed promotion to the second division in his first year. In the 1999 season he lost with the team only one season game and qualified after four wins in the promotion round for the relegation games to the newly introduced Superettan . After a 0-0 draw at the start against Gefle IF , a 2-2 draw in the second leg due to the away goals rule was enough for promotion to the second division. There he established the team in midfield of the league. In the summer of 2001, negotiations about an extension of his contract, which expired at the end of the year, failed.

In November 2001 Syrianska FC signed Eriksson as the new coach, who signed a two-year contract. Had the club missed promotion to the Superettan in the 2001 season only in the promotion round, the team under Eriksson could not build on the success of the previous year and he was released early. Initially without a coaching job, he was brought in 2004 by third division Enskede IK . In the relay Östra Svealand he saved the team from relegation.

In 2005 Eriksson took over the training at the second division IF Brommapojkarna . In the 2006 season he led the team around Thomas Lagerlöf , Olof Guterstam , Kristoffer Björklund and Joakim Runnemo to third place in the table, which entitles them to relegation to Allsvenskan. With two wins against the Gothenburg club BK Häcken, he managed with her the first promotion to the Allsvenskan in the club's history. A short time later, he extended his contract with the club for two more years. The first division season 2007 was not crowned with success, however, as bottom of the table, he rose directly from the club. Then he announced the end of his engagement with the Stockholm club.

Eriksson went to Svenska Fotbollförbundet at the beginning of 2008, where he is responsible for player development and, among other things, coordinates the work of the individual junior coaches. He is responsible for the “elite project” with which the association would like to promote coaching training in addition to the training of talented players in order to produce competitive clubs and players on a European level.

In the summer of 2010, Eriksson was hired by the Swedish Football Association to coach the newly formed Swedish U-21 national team . On October 7, 2010, he made his debut there in a 1-1 draw against his colleagues from Austria .
