description

Often there is a quick change of costumes in performances by magicians. The best known is the version in which the assistant is locked into a cabinet, from which the person escapes and appears in a different costume.

Another version is the quick costume change on the open stage, in which the artist steps behind a screen and reappears in a new costume after a few seconds.

Since the 1970s, the Italian artist and actor Arturo Brachetti , in particular, has made the quick costume change popular by staging complete plays that were written for several people, but all of which are played by Brachetti himself, who quickly adapt to new ones Characters transformed and appear in different costumes.

history

The art of quick costume changes goes back to the Italian artist Leopoldo Fregoli (1867–1936). Quick change is first described in the literature in the book by Will Goldston (1878-1948), The Magician Annual , 1910-1911 by Lee Laurie (1872-1955). The following year Will Goldston himself covered it in his book Exclusive Magical Secrets .
