cards

Quick was featured on all Austrian Maestro cards . In addition, there were the non-account-related prepaid cards, which were issued by PayLife Bank GmbH either in a neutral form (Quick prepaid cards ) or in the design of a partner company (so-called Affinity prepaid cards). Additional quick chips could also be integrated into company ID cards. There were also around 200,000 edu.cards (an electronic student ID with a quick payment function).

With Quick, payments could only be made that did not exceed the current balance on the card. This allowed the owner of the card to set the limit himself, but if the card was lost, the loaded amount was lost and the card could not be blocked. One advantage of this payment method was that a bank booking with possible line charges was only made when loading, but not when paying, which is the case with direct terminal payments. The loading processes and a certain number of payments were saved on the chip in a log and could be read out with a chip card reader .

Quick charging was possible at around 7700 ATMs and the bank's own foyer machines (as of the end of 2011). The maximum loading amount was 400 euros . A loading transaction always took place online, the loading amount was debited from the cardholder's account and credited to a pool account.

Payment with Quick was possible at over 68,000 PayLife cash registers and around 20,000 Quick Terminals. Payment transactions were made offline. The payment amount was debited from the chip and saved in the payment terminal. The submission of sales by the Quick acceptor took place via line or by means of special submission cards. The payment amount was then debited to the pool account and credited to the acceptor.

Quick was accepted as a means of payment

  • from all PayLife ATMs (mostly parallel to other cashless payment methods such as debit and credit cards).
  • from publicly accessible machines such as parking ticket machines , cigarette machines (especially since the introduction of the mandatory age check in 2007), to around 2,200 self-service washing machines in non-profit residential buildings, beverage machines, copiers, etc.
  • in closed areas such as production plants, financial institutions, schools, universities, hospitals, etc.

Since 2011, however, some companies have switched to new terminals that no longer allow Quick payments after Quick had only been used by a few customers:

  • ÖBB
  • SAVE
  • Dayli

Card variants

The quick payment function was available on different types of cards:

  1. on all Austrian Maestro bank cards
  2. As a Quick prepaid card: the Quick prepaid card could be used again and again with the desired amount up to a max. Load and use 400 euros. Quick prepaid cards were anonymous and transferable. Quick prepaid cards were available from the PayLife online shop, from Austrian banks or directly from PayLife.
  3. on the edu.card, the student ID issued by the Federal Ministry for Education, Art and Culture: The edu.card could be used for quick payments in the canteen, at the copier etc., for access authorizations (e.g. for IT rooms), for borrowing from the library, for the electronic signature and as a free travel function in cooperation with the transport company.
  4. As an affinity value card: These are cards issued by companies. Possible functions are: Quick payment card, employee ID, photo ID, access authorization card

Quick contactless

On September 27, 2012, PayLife presented Quick NEW, a hybrid card with which you could pay by inserting the card as well as contactless . The contactless Quick prepaid card made it possible to pay easily, securely and in seconds for amounts up to 400 euros. The Quick card could be loaded at any ATM, foyer cash dispenser in the banks and at Quick loading stations with an amount up to a maximum of 400 euros. To do this, you first insert the Maestro bank card and select the "Load other card" function. It was also planned to load up contactless Quick prepaid cards via the Internet, on mobile phones or at PayLife cash machines. When paying with Quick, you don't need a PIN code or signature, regardless of whether it was a contactless transaction or whether a transaction was made by inserting the card. As of mid-2013, around 3 million Austrian ATM cards were equipped with Quick contactless as part of the regular card exchange. Since the introduction of Quick contactless, there had been around 100,000 contactless transactions with more than 9,000 Quick contactless cards by the end of 2012.

Quick on the internet

Payment with this electronic wallet runs under the name @Quick on the Internet and is supported by the leading Austrian e-payment providers. Only a few web shops offer @Quick as a means of payment. In addition to a standard chip card reader, a prerequisite for use is the installation of a free @Quick plug-in.

Comparable systems in other countries

In other countries there are many comparable electronic wallet systems that are, however, neither compatible with each other nor with the Austrian system.
