Quin

Quin ( Irish Cuinche "five ways") is a place in County Clare in the west of the Republic of Ireland .

Quin is about ten kilometers southeast of Ennis in the eastern part of County Clare on the regional road R469 from Ennis to Kilmurry and is traversed by the small River Rine. The Irish name of the place refers to the original five streets that led out of Quin. The population of Quin was determined at 951 people in the 2016 census .

" Quin Abbey " (2006)

Quin was known by the located there, in general usage as well as on maps only as Quin Abbey called Quin Abbey , one on the foundations of an earlier Norman -built castle large former Franciscan monastery from the 15th century. In the Parish Quin are Knappogue Castle and the ruins of Ballymarkahan Castle and near Quin is the late medieval castle Ballyshannon Castle .

The prospector Paddy Hannan , who in 1893 sparked a gold rush in Australia, was born in 1840 in Quin.
