The Quinault Pass is a snowy mountain pass in the center of Alexander I Island west of the Antarctic Peninsula . It runs in a north-south direction between the Lully Foothills and the LeMay Range .
The British geographer Derek Searle of the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey mapped it in 1960 using aerial photographs taken by the American Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947-1948). The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named him in 1977 based on the naming of the Lully Foothills after the French librettist Philippe Quinault (1635–1688), who had worked with the composer Jean-Baptiste Lully on three operas .
