Jonathan Ropner, a farmer in Yorkshire, England, took over local ice cream maker Cardosi in 1985 and founded Richmond Foods . In 1998 the merger with the Treats Group Plc took place. and a year later the takeover of Allied Frozen Foods . In 2004, Richmond Foods bought De Roma .
In 2006, the US investment fund Oaktree Capital took over Richmond Foods to merge with the German ice cream producer Roncadin . In 2007, the two sister companies Roncadin and Richmond Foods were merged and have since been called R&R Ice Cream .
In spring 2013, Oaktree sold the R&R Ice Cream Group to the French private equity fund PAI partners .
In October 2016, R&R Ice Cream merged with the ice cream division of Nestlé (including Schöller ) to form the new joint venture Froneri .
