The Rába-Steiger 250 , also known as the Rába-250 , is an agricultural tractor manufactured by Rába in Hungary . It was built from 1979 to 2001 and exported until 1992, particularly to the USA. The vehicle is a license replica of the Steiger Cougar , but differs from the Cougar in some design features. Instead of the Cummins diesel engine, the Rába-Steiger 250 has a diesel engine manufactured by Rába under a MAN license and a power lift developed by Rába. Between 1979 and 1989 around 16,700 type 250 tugs were built. After the fall of the Wall, production was temporarily suspended; at last a small double-digit number of tugs rolled off the production line every year before production was stopped in 2001.

description

The Rába-Steiger 250 is a frame construction tractor with articulated steering, all-wheel drive and four equally sized wheels. In contemporary publications it is compared to tugs like the Kirovets K-700 and Kirovets K-701 . Unlike the K-700 family, the Rába-Steiger 250 has a Steiger gearbox with 10 + 2 forward speeds, but no powershift or regulating hydraulics. The tractor is powered by a charged six-cylinder diesel engine from the MAN D 2156 series, which Rába manufactured under license. The engine has a capacity of 10.35 dm 3 and has an output of 184 kW at 1900 rpm (according to DIN 6270). The maximum torque of 1025.5 Nm is at 1600 rpm, the lowest fuel consumption is 217.6 g / kWh. Many of the vehicle's components come from non-socialist suppliers. For example, the injection pump was supplied by Bosch , while the air filters were manufactured by the Donaldson Company . After the fall of the Wall, a more economical Rába D10 TL-184 engine was installed, which also has a displacement of 10.35 dm 3 and has an output of 184 kW at 1900 rpm (according to ISO 2288). It delivers a higher torque of 1163 Nm at 1300 rpm and has a low fuel consumption of 207 g / kWh. The tractor belongs to the 50 kN pulling force class, the manufacturer specifies the maximum pulling force as 7000 kp (68.6 kN).
