The Kirovets K-701 ( Russian Кировец К-701 ) is a heavy Soviet or later Russian tractor . The vehicle with articulated steering and all-wheel drive was produced by the Kirov factory in Saint Petersburg and replaced the Kirovets K-700 . With up to 300 HP from a displacement of more than 22 liters in the basic version, it was the most powerful wheel tractor built in series in the entire Eastern Bloc .

Vehicle history

The development of the K-701 began parallel to that of the Kirovets K-700A in 1970. Externally, the vehicles do not differ, the K-701 is three centimeters longer, which is not noticeable with a total length of 7.40 meters. The design with an articulated joint and tires of the same size all round is characteristic. The main difference between the two tractors is that the K-700A has an eight-cylinder diesel engine, while the K-701 has a twelve-cylinder engine from the same engine family. Depending on the version, the uncharged engine developed between 202 and 221 kW (275 and 300 hp).

Series production began just like the K-700A in 1975. By 2002, a total of around 350,000 machines of both types had been produced, 9500 of which were for export. After that, the model was discontinued in favor of the Kirovets K-744 , the main reasons were outdated technology and stricter safety regulations.

From 1985 a modernized version K-701M was also built. The body was redesigned and an eight-cylinder JaMZ-8423 diesel engine with a turbocharger and intercooler was installed. At 17,241 cubic centimeters, this engine has a similar displacement to its predecessor and develops 246 kW (334 hp) at 1900 rpm. The fuel consumption remained at 64 liters per operating hour at the rated speed (more than 500 liters in an eight-hour shift). This corresponds to a specific consumption of 249 g / kWh. The dimensions differ by a few centimeters. Kirovets took over parts of the K-701M for various other machines, including the construction machines of the series Kirovets K-702 and also newer versions of the forest machines of the type Kirovets K-703 .

The GDR also received K-701 tractors from 1977. However, the numbers remained far behind those of the eight-cylinder version.
