The Kirovets K-700 is an all-wheel drive wheeled tractor from the former Soviet and now Russian manufacturer Kirovets . The tractors were manufactured from 1962, the basic structure was adopted for several successor models. The K-700 was also exported; the Comecon member GDR imported it from 1968.

The Charkow tractor factory built the somewhat smaller T-150K in a similar form from 1972 onwards .

Vehicle history

The K-700 is a heavy all-wheel tractor in the 50 kilonewton class with articulated steering and disengageable rear-wheel drive. The connecting piece of the front and rear frame parts can be moved around the vertical and longitudinal axes, steering is carried out by bending to the side using hydraulics. It is powered by the eight-cylinder JaMZ-238 diesel in a V configuration with an output of 215 hp (158 kW). On July 13, 1962, the first prototype of the K-700 left the factory gate in Leningrad . By the end of the year, Kirovets had built a total of 15 K-700s. In 1963 50 pre-series tractors were produced until large-scale production began on September 14, 1964. In the same year over 1200 K-700 were delivered and over 100,000 K-700 were produced by 1975. The successor was the fundamentally redesigned Kirovets K-700A .

Use in the GDR

The K-700 tractors were reliable, efficient, especially on large, contiguous areas, and easy to handle after getting used to, even if the driver's exposure to noise and vibrations was relatively high. In the GDR, their size was sometimes a hindrance when deployed away from the fields.

In 1973 it was estimated in the planned economy in the real socialism of the GDR that compared to the use of the Progress ZT 300 with a K-700, labor productivity could be increased threefold. In order to keep the cost parameters low and to meet the target, the K-700 was indispensable in the GDR plant production for the necessary increase in productivity for the nomenclature. According to Plansoll, at least 1,400 working hours or 1,600 hectares of plowing work per year were necessary in order to make optimal economic use of a K-700 tractor, which would have made it uneconomical to use it on a state- owned estate , since the required area sizes were usually not available there. A two-shift system was necessary for the required 1400 working hours per K-700, since the necessary hour-dependent economic workload per year under GDR conditions could not be achieved in one-shift operation. Around 100,000 marks were estimated for the purchase of a K-700 in 1973  , which resulted in fixed costs of 12,500 marks over a period of eight years. In addition, there were insurance costs of 600 marks a year.
