Régulo Rico

Régulo Ramón Rico Lugo (born March 30, 1877 in Guatire , † March 20, 1960 ) was a Venezuelan composer and music teacher .

From the age of twelve, Rico received lessons from Demetrio Farías and Enrique León as well as from Francisco Mújica Toro . At the age of seventeen he became music director at the Iglesia Santa Cruz de Pacairigua in Guatire. In 1901 he founded the Orquesta La Sociedad Filarmónica , and in 1928 the Estudiantina Santa Cecilia . He also worked as a teacher at the Escuela Municipal .

As a teacher, Rico shaped a whole generation of Venezuelan musicians and music teachers, including Vicente Emilio Sojo , Francisco Palacios , Elías Centeno , Jesús Alvarez , Evaristo Milano , Claudio Rico , Delfín and Melecio García Barba , Julián Tovar , Isidoro Gámez , Rafael Vicente Borges , Manuel Milano , Isaías Reverón and Francisco Correa .

Rico composed mainly church music, including masses, motets and hymns, as well as symphonies, songs and waltzes.
