Rémí Boucher

Rémí Boucher (* 1964 in Rouyn-Noranda ) is a Canadian classical guitarist .

Life

Boucher studied classical guitar music at the Montreal Conservatory and completed his studies in Spain, the Belgian Royal Conservatory and the Swiss Basel Academy.

Boucher won the Sylva Gelber Award and several international music competitions. As a result, he was invited by numerous symphony orchestras. During his studies Boucher developed a new playing technique and composed several pieces. His repertoire includes pieces by Joaquín Rodrigo , Heitor Villa-Lobos , Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco , Manuel María Ponce , Federico Moreno Torroba , Leo Brouwer , Antón García Abril , Mauro Giuliani , Peeter Vähi and Antonio Vivaldi . He is known for his interpretations of Impressionist and Spanish pieces of music. In celebration of India's 50th Independence Day, he was invited by the Canadian Governor General to play the concert. He was also invited by the President of India to a meeting between Canada and India. In October 2013 Boucher played in the St. Petersburg Philharmonic together with the St. Peterburg Academic Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Mikhail Leontyev .

Boucher's guitar was made by the German Joachim Schneider.

He lives in Quebec , where he is a professor at Laval University and the Conservatory of Music .
