The Réserve écologique Louis-Zéphirin-Rousseau is a protected area of only 5.15 hectares in the west of the Canadian province of Québec , which harbors a forest that consists mainly of occidental trees .

These were typical of the Gatineau Valley before most of this type of forest was cut down in the 19th and 20th centuries. The park is located 25 km southeast of Maniwaki on three small islands in the Lac des Trente et Un Milles . Like all of these protected areas, it is not open to the public.

The park area is located in a hilly region that is between 250 and 500  m above sea level. The rocky subsoil consists mainly of gneiss . The tree of life prefers a lime-rich location. This is only suitable for a few trees, so there are only small stocks of American white or paper birch , plus the balsam fir , the white spruce and the Weymouth pine .

The fauna is rather poor in species. The white-tailed deer are attracted by the soft leaves of the arborvitae, but snowshoe hares , porcupines and gray squirrels (French: ècureuil gris) also live on the islands in the “lake of thirty-one thousand”.

The name of the reserve refers to Louis-Zéphirin Rousseau (1901–1987), who campaigned for research and conservation of the forests.
