The Réserve écologique de la Rivière-du-Moulin is the oldest Réserve écologique in the Canadian province of Québec.

It is a protected area established in 1975 on an area of 10.66 hectares in the south of the Canadian province of Québec . It is located in the regional county town of Lotbinière near the town of Lotbinière on the south bank of the Saint Lawrence River . It protects very old stocks of the Canadian hemlock , here associated with Weymouth pine and yellow birch , which cover about half of the reserve.

The area is located on a terrace about 20 m high, which was created by the retreat of the glacier ice about 12,000 years ago. Slate-like deposits superimposed so-called shales .

Logging and agriculture have reduced this type of forest, which is typical for the region, to such an extent that practically only young stands are left. The last forest of such high quality is in this reserve. In addition to the trees mentioned, there are red oak , elm and black ash .
