Universal testing device for electron tubes

A tube measuring device , also known as a tube tester, is used for electrical measurement and testing of electron tubes . They were developed, built and sold to enable professionals to provide assistance in assessing the quality of the tube systems.

Measurements

Tube measuring devices are required in extracts for measuring tube parameters such as:

  • Vacuum testing
  • Broken filament
  • Heating current consumption
  • Short circuit and resistance values of the electrodes to each other
  • Grid and anode currents
  • Steepness

Furnishing

Simple tube measuring devices only have one test option for the tube heating. Higher-quality versions also offer several display means for the parallel display of the interaction between the control grid voltage and the grid voltage as well as the change in anode current. As part of the ongoing development of electron tubes, the measuring devices were e.g. B. equipped with the sockets of the new generation of tubes.

As special versions, military versions were mostly modified from civilian models. With the advent of television in the 1940s, special picture tube measuring devices were added, which also often provided a regeneration option for deaf cathodes.

service

The electrode assignment and the individual parameters such as heating voltage, grid voltage and anode voltage must be carried out manually by the tester. To simplify the measuring process, card systems (e.g. from Max Funke ) for "quick programming" of the electrode allocation and later also semi-automated systems (Hickok Cardmatic Tube Tester) have been developed.
