Roman House (Stuttgart)
The Roman House is a presumably cult building of the former local population from the 2nd century AD, which was found around 800 meters east of the Bärenschlössle in the red deer park near Stuttgart , was archaeologically examined in 1921 and 1922 under Oscar Paret and Gerhard Bersu and in 1976 by the Baden State Monuments Office -Wuerttemberg was researched again.
Finding
The building's floor plan has an external dimension of 26 × 26 meters, the walls are 60 to 80 centimeters thick. Foundations parallel to the wall suggest a covered walkway.
Apart from broken fragments of various clay pots from a pit in the interior, no finds were made.
Habitation seems unlikely, as the site and its surroundings were remote and sparsely populated at the time and, even according to the findings to date, are completely isolated.
Monument protection and remains
The floor monument "Roman House" is protected as a registered cultural monument within the meaning of the Monument Protection Act of the State of Baden-Württemberg (DSchG) . Investigations and targeted collection of finds are subject to approval, and accidental finds are reported to the monument authorities. The finds from the excavations are in the collection of the Württemberg State Museum in the Old Castle in Stuttgart .
