Rønningesten

Rønningesten (No. DR 202, Fyn 30) is a rune stone made between 900 and 950 AD , which stands in the Karnhaus of Rønninge Kirke south of Langeskov on Funen . Jon Skonvig (1600–1664) found the granite stone built into a bridge in 1627. It later disappeared, but was found in Kerteminde in 1852 when a house was demolished and it was built into the floor. The roughly teardrop-shaped stone is 1.04 m high, 62 cm wide and 63 cm thick.

Inscription:

suti: sati: stain: þansi: aft | ailaif: bruþur: sin: sun: ąskaus | rough: skialta

Old Norse:

"Sōti satti stæin þannsi æft Æilæif, brōður sinn, sun Āsgauts Rauðumskialda"

Translation:

"Sote put this stone after Elev, his brother, the son of Asgot with the red shield" .

The inscription is arranged in the bustrophedon , starting from the lower left corner. The stone was carved by the rune master Sote, who presumably also carved the Glavendrupsten and the Tryggevældesten (No. Sj 82).

Nearby are the Dolmen Grisemosehøj and the megalithic complex Langdysse Rolvshøj .
