Back hair
Hair growth on the back that occurs primarily in men is referred to as back hair . It is part of the body hair and thus a secondary gender characteristic .
Emergence
Back hair, like chest hair, usually only appears post-pubertal (between 20 and 30 years of age) and can increase with age. Vellus hair is converted into terminal hair due to the rising androgen level . Natural hair growth should not be confused with pathological hypertrichosis .
Social aspects
Occasionally, hair on the back is perceived as unaesthetic, which is why depilation may be desirable. For depilation by means of wet shaving, the industry produces ergonomic extensions with which those affected can shave their backs themselves. However, there are also women and men who see back hair as masculine and beautiful, e.g. B. the subculture of the bear community .
