The Rühner See , also known as the Großer Rühner See , is located in the Bützow Basin between Bützow and Rühn in the Rostock district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It is a little indented flat lake with a water surface of about 99 hectares and a depth of about six meters. It is about 1,600 meters long and 930 meters wide. The small island of Rethberg is located in the lake .

The inflow of the lake comes from the Trechower See , the outflow is via the Seebach into the Warnow . The Rühner See, which is almost completely surrounded by a belt of cattails and reeds, is a eutrophic , species-rich standing water . North-east of the lake is the smaller Triensee . Not far from the south bank is the Lange See, parallel to the bank.

There is a bathing establishment at the lake. The lake is surrounded by fields and meadows.
