RO Morris
Reginald Owen Morris (born March 3, 1886 in York , † December 14, 1948 in London ) was an English composer and music teacher.
Morris attended Harrow School and New College at Oxford and studied at the Royal College of Music in London. He served in the Durham Light Infantry with the rank of lieutenant during World War I and then became Professor of Counterpoint and Composition at the Royal College of Music, where, among others, Gerald Finzi , Michael Tippett , Constant Lambert , Robin Milford , Anthony Milner , Edmund Rubbra , Bernard Stevens and Jean Coulthard were among his students. From 1926 to 1931 he was director of music theory and composition at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. In 1922 he published an Introduction to Counterpoint, Contrapuntal Technique in the Sixteenth Century . He composed symphonies and other orchestral works, four string quartets and vocal works.
