RRR Smith

Roland Ralph Redfern Smith , known only as RRR Smith (nickname Bert ), (born January 30, 1954 in Edinburgh ) is a British classical archaeologist .

Life

RRR Smith graduated from Oxford University . 1983 to 1985 he was a Harkness Fellow at Princeton University . From 1986 to 1995 he taught classical archeology at the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University and has been directing its excavation in Aphrodisias since 1991 . In 1995 he moved to Oxford, where he has since taught as Professor of Classical Archeology ( Lincoln Professor of Classical Archeology and Art ). He also heads the Cast Gallery of the Ashmolean Museum there .

In 2010 he became a member of the British Academy .
