RAF Signals Command

The RAF Signals Command was the telecommunications command of the British Royal Air Force (RAF) between 1958 and 1969 .

history

On April 24, 1946, the No 90 (Signals) Group was formed at Danesfield Court in Medmenham near Marlow , the functions of No. 26 Group , No. 60 Group , No. 100 Group and No. 80 Wing took over. The first in command of this unit was Major General (Air Vice Marshal) Edward Addison . On November 3, 1958, the No. 90 (Signals) Group was raised to the status of a command and from then on bore the name Luftwaffe Fernmeldekommando (RAF Signals Command) with the motto “Aetherem Vincere” ('To overcome the sky'). First Commanding General of the RAF Signals Command became the previous commander of No. 90 (Signals) Group , Air Vice Marshal Leslie Dalton-Morris . On January 1, 1969, the RAF Signals Command again lost its status as a command and was named No. 90 (signal) Group the air raid command ( RAF Strike Command ) subordinate. On September 1, 1972, the No. 90 (Signals) Group subordinates to the Air Force Maintenance Command ( RAF Maintenance Command ) . After the RAF Maintenance Command was also disbanded on August 31, 1973, No. 90 (Signals) Group finally subordinated to the Air Support Command ( RAF Support Command ) .

The RAF Signals Command was subordinate to a Major General ( Air Vice Marshal ) as Commanding General AOC-in-C ( Air Officer Commander-in-Chief ) according to today's NATO rank code OF-7 .
